The agreement
These Terms govern your use of IronSeal. By creating an account or accessing the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use IronSeal — it's that simple.
The 30-second version
- ✓Don't use IronSeal for anything illegal, abusive, or to harm others.
- ✓You own your messages; we provide the relay.
- ✓Lose your passphrase, lose your old messages — we cannot recover them.
- ✓The service is provided “as is”. We work hard to keep it secure but we don't guarantee perfection.
- ✓Disputes are resolved under the laws of State of Delaware, United States.
1. The agreement
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a binding agreement between you (“you”, “User”) and ConnectDevs (“ConnectDevs”, “we”, “us”), the operator of IronSeal (the “Service”).
By signing up, logging in, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and accepted these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. Eligibility
To use IronSeal you must:
- →Be at least 13 years old (16 in the EEA / UK), or have the consent of a parent or legal guardian where applicable
- →Be legally permitted to use encrypted communications in your jurisdiction
- →Not be located in, or a national of, a country subject to comprehensive U.S. trade sanctions
- →Not be on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties
3. Your account
- →Provide accurate information when registering and keep it up to date.
- →Pick a strong password and keep it private. Use the optional TOTP two-factor authentication if your threat model warrants it.
- →You're responsible for everything that happens under your account.
- →Notify us at support@ironseal.app if you suspect unauthorized access.
- →One person, one account. Don't share credentials.
4. The zero-knowledge promise (and what it means for you)
IronSeal is end-to-end encrypted. Your messages are encrypted in your browser, relayed as ciphertext, and decrypted only on the recipient's device. The server never sees plaintext.
This means we cannot:
- •recover the contents of your messages if you lose your device and recovery passphrase;
- •read your messages on your behalf, even with a court order;
- •moderate message content directly — we can only act on the metadata visible to us (sender, recipient, timing).
You acknowledge and accept these consequences as inherent to the security model. See our Security Whitepaper for the technical details.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use IronSeal to:
- ✕Violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right
- ✕Send spam or unsolicited bulk messages
- ✕Harass, threaten, stalk, or intimidate any person
- ✕Distribute child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or content that exploits minors in any form
- ✕Plan, coordinate, or commit acts of terrorism, violence, or other serious crime
- ✕Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any entity
- ✕Attempt to break, probe, reverse-engineer, or otherwise compromise the Service's security
- ✕Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any system or network without authorisation
- ✕Use automated means (bots, scrapers, fake accounts) to interact with the Service
- ✕Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our written consent
- ✕Circumvent rate limits, lockouts, or any technical safeguard
Violations may result in suspension or termination of your account, with or without notice, and we may report illegal activity to law enforcement.
6. Your content
You retain all rights to the messages and content you send through IronSeal. We do not claim ownership and will not access them — that's the entire point.
You grant ConnectDevs a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and relay the ciphertext of your messages for the sole purpose of delivering them to your chosen recipients. This licence ends when the message expires, is deleted, or your account is closed.
7. Service availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance, outages, or third-party provider failures may cause downtime. We will provide reasonable advance notice of planned maintenance where feasible.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time. If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will give at least 30 days notice and provide a way for you to export your account data.
8. Termination
By you: you can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account. Account data is purged within 30 days; ciphertext is deleted immediately.
By us:we may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, create risk or possible legal exposure for us, or if we're required to by law. We'll give reasonable notice where possible — but where the breach is severe or ongoing harm is occurring, we may act immediately.
9. Law enforcement requests
We comply with valid legal process. We will respond to lawful requests from law enforcement and, where legally compelled, may disclose:
- →Account registration data (email, display name, account creation date)
- →IP address from a recent session, if still in our short-term cache
- →Subscription status
We cannot disclose message content, private keys, or anything end-to-end encrypted— we don't have access to it. We will challenge requests we believe are unlawful, overbroad, or improperly served. Where permitted by law, we will notify the affected user before disclosing.
10. Intellectual property
The IronSeal name, logo, design, source code, and all related materials are owned by ConnectDevs and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable licence to use the Service in accordance with these Terms — nothing more.
11. Feedback
If you send us suggestions, bug reports, or feature ideas, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use them without obligation or compensation. We won't identify you as the source unless you ask us to.
12. Disclaimers
The legal-language section. We have to write this in capitals. Bear with us.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR UNINTERRUPTED OPERATION.
ConnectDevs DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED, OR THAT THE SERVICE OR THE SERVERS THAT MAKE IT AVAILABLE ARE FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS. NO ADVICE OR INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM US OR THROUGH THE SERVICE CREATES ANY WARRANTY NOT EXPRESSLY STATED IN THESE TERMS.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CONNECTDEVS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES — INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL — ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $100. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES OR LIMITATIONS ON LIABILITY, SO THESE LIMITS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU IN FULL.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold ConnectDevs harmless from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your violation of any third-party rights.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change is material, we'll notify you by email and post a banner in-app at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't accept, stop using the Service and delete your account.
16. Governing law & dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The U.N. Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
Informal resolution first. Before filing a claim, you agree to try to resolve the dispute informally by contacting legal@ironseal.app. We'll do the same. If we can't resolve it within 60 days, either party may proceed.
Binding arbitration. Any unresolved dispute will be settled by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. Arbitration will take place in Delaware (or such other location agreed in writing). Each party bears its own costs except as otherwise required by the rules.
Class-action waiver. Disputes must be brought on an individual basis only — not as a plaintiff or class member in a class, consolidated, or representative action.
Exceptions. Either party may bring a claim in small-claims court if it qualifies, or seek injunctive or equitable relief in court for intellectual-property infringement or unauthorised access to the Service.
17. Miscellaneous
- →Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and ConnectDevs regarding the Service.
- →Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect.
- →No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
- →Assignment. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
- →Force majeure. Neither party is liable for delays caused by events outside their reasonable control.
- →Notices. Legal notices to us must be sent to legal@ironseal.app. We'll notify you via the email on file.
- →Survival. Sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, liability, governing law) survive termination.
